85001 stands withdrawn in Flag Lane sidings at Crewe Works open day on 4 July 1987. Withdrawal came about due to serious fire damage sustained in October 1985 at South Kenton. She was eventually scrapped at Glasgow in April 1989.

85006 is seen inside Bletchley depot on 25 April 1987 receiving attention to a burnt out traction motor. This is the only class 85 to be preserved, the other 39 all going for scrap.

85007 is seen passing south through Milton Keynes on 22 May 1987 at 1600hrs. 85007 was later renumbered to 85112 but by early 1993 was just a memory being cut up at Glasgow.
85009 takes an UID freight south through Milton Keynes on 8 July 1988. Was renumbered to 85102 in June the following year.
85012 waits to leave Milton Keynes on 30 October 1987 with the 1648 Euston - Northampton 'Network Express'. Later renumbered to 85104.
Working life over, 85013 stands condemned at Crewe Electric Depot on 22 July 1989. The end came when she caught fire near to Watford Junction on 4 March 1989 whilst on ECS duty.

85021 is seen stabled in the former parcels bay platform at Bletchley on 8 January 1989. Six months later she was to become a freight machine and was renumbered to 85106. Withdrawal came in October 1990 with final disposal arriving in the Autumn of 1992.
85024 powers a Silcock Express automotive working north past Blue Bridge, Wolverton on 26 August 1988. She later became freight 85107 before withdrawal in May 1990.
Roarer 85030 awaits the off from Manchester Piccadilly on 11 February 1989 with the 1605 to Plymouth. She was withdrawn in September the following year.
85109 or 85035 in old money passes through Bletchley on a freight on 5 April 1991. She had less than four months left in traffic when this shot was taken.
